Patti Newton breaks her silence on her husband Bert’s “health crisis”
Patti Newton, Bert Newton’s wife of 45 years, spoke to The Morning Show’s Larry Emdur and Kylie Gillies about the rumours surrounding her husband’s ill-health.
Patti confirmed all was well with Bert, saying that a more laidback work schedule has done the trick.
“He’s fabulous, absolutely fabulous,” Patti confirmed to Larry and Kylie.
“He’s 81 this year, and he’s doing so well.
“He could work a lot if he wanted to. But he picks and chooses. He’s got the grandchildren.”

Although the pair plan on celebrating their 45th wedding anniversary this year by “sleeping”, that doesn’t seem likely as their daughter Lauren has welcomed her fifth child, Perla.
“Pearly’s been a wonderful addition to the family, and she’s a really good baby, which is lucky for five,” Lauren confirmed.
Patti is thrilled about being a grandparent, as she’s very hands on, with Larry asking whether or not the duo are involved in their grandchildren's day-to-day lives.
“I think it’s the best thing we’ve ever done, being grandparents. We absolutely love it,” Patti confirmed.
“We have a seven-year-old who just adores Bert. His favourite thing is when they play ‘Doctors and Nurses’, where he can just lie down.”
