Only 5% of Australians getting a good night’s sleep

For 95 per cent of Australians, sleeping soundly is nothing more than a distant dream, and one in five are disturbed so much in their seep they feel it’s unsafe for them to drive.

New research carried out by nourishedlife.com.au shows only 5 per cent of people sleep soundly every night. 65 per cent regularly suffer from disturbed sleep and in 35 per cent of people it is causing memory loss.

Sleep deprivation has been found to have a significant impact on day-to-day life, impacting health, relationships and overall safety.

One in three people surveyed said they were too tired for sex and 14 per cent believed it had affected their relationship.

The impact of sleep deprivation is a concern to experts who believe adults require seven to nine hours of sleep every night.

Naturopath Melanie Ruckley said a good sleep gives the body the sufficient time to heal and repair.

“A prolonged lack of sleep can have an enormous impact on our lives and it’s often a vicious cycle. When we are lying in bed struggling to sleep we get more and more anxious as time passes, which stops us from dropping off,” she told The Advertiser.
