One year on: Home and Away star Cornelia Frances' son pays touching tribute

The son of late Home and Away star Cornelia Frances has paid tribute to his mother to commemorate the first anniversary of her death.

Last year, Frances passed away after a battle with cancer at the age of 77.

Lawrence Eastland, the only son of the actress, honoured his late mother in an Instagram post on Wednesday.

“One year ago today I held your hands as you passed away, it was one of the biggest days of my life and not a single second has gone by with out me missing you insanely,” wrote Eastland.

“I still feel you around me my dear beautiful mum! Lost but never forgotten.”

In an interview with Woman’s Day last year, Eastland said he was with Frances when she died.

“I was by her side, holding her hand when she took her last breath. She slipped away in her sleep,” he shared.

“It was serene. There was no pain. I feel relieved that Mum is finally at peace.”

Frances, who rose to popularity through her role as Sister Scott on The Young Doctors, was diagnosed with bladder cancer in 2016.

She underwent chemotherapy and radiation treatment, but the cancer spread.

“Despite the pain, Mum never complained. She was so classy right up until the end,” said Eastland.

His father and Frances’s former husband, Michael Eastland, died of cancer four years earlier.
