Nationwide medication recall: Powerful painkiller found in wrong packaging

A nationwide quarantine has been issued for 5mg Aspen Pharma Endone after a sleeve of Anamorph was found inside one of its packets.

The sleeve of 30mg Anamorph, which is four times stronger than Endone, was found on July 26 in South Australia.

The Department of Health’s Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) spoke to 10daily that a quarantine notice was issued to all State and Territory health departments for a recall.

"The quarantine action suspends further supply and distribution pending further investigation," a spokesperson for the Department of Health said.

The quarantine notice is a “precautionary” measure and said that the TGA said it was not aware that the drug Anamorph had been consumed by anyone.

A new investigation has been launched into the incident by the drug manufacturer Aspen Pharma.
