Grieving family takes aim at Daniel Andrews in obituary
The heartbroken family of a man who died in his sleep on Monday has taken aim at Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews.
Posting a tribute to “exceptional man” Peter Mitchel in The Age’s Death & Funeral Notices, his family chose to take a swipe publicly at Andrews.
The wrote the late Mr Mitchell’s memorial service was “to be held when the dictator is overthrown”.
Despite not mentioning the Premier by name, it is likely they were talking about Andrew after his announcement on Sunday of Victoria’s roadmap out of the coronavirus.
Mr Mitchell was remembered as “an exceptional man with an exceptional mind, wit and heart”.
His family revealed he had died at home during his sleep.
Andrews’ decision was not met with praise, as many, including Prime Minister Scott Morrison, criticised the leader for his decision.
Morrison said that he would be looking to bring Victorians out of lockdown quicker than what was outlined in Andrews’ roadmap.
The roadmap says Melbourne can only move to Stage 3 of its four-stage plan if the average daily number of cases across two weeks is below five.
For the last stage, there must be two consecutive weeks with zero cases leading up to November 23.
