Footloose star dies aged 78

Footloose star Lynne Marta has died aged 78.

The actress' friend, Chris Saint-Hilaire, confirmed the sad news to The Hollywood Reporter this week, and revealed that the New Jersey native died in her LA home following a battle with cancer.

Another friend, Joan Sobel also confirmed the devastating news with a tribute on Facebook.

"We lost a beautiful light today," she wrote in the heartfelt post.

"My friend, Lynne Marta lost her good fight. A wonderfully talented actress and a beautiful singer whose voice was of the angels.

"A dear heart who adored her friends both human and furry. I will miss her terribly," she added with a picture of the actress.

Marta played Lulu Warnicker alongside Kevin Bacon in the hit 80s film Footloose

She was also known for her roles in Starsky and Hutch and Joe Kidd.

Her last few onscreen appearances were in the early 2000s and included a few episodes of ER and Crossing Jordan, and the movie Time of Fear in 2002 and a 2004 episode of American Dreams.

Marta's death comes just weeks after her ex-partner and Starsky & Hutch actor David Soul died, on January 4 at the age of 80.

The actress is survived by her sister MJ according to The Hollywood Reporter.
