The strict pregnancy rules Duchess Meghan must follow if she has children

While the world hopes newlyweds Prince Harry and Meghan will one day soon have children, the royal couple are certainly under no obligation.

But if they do decide to follow in Prince William and Kate’s footsteps, and start their own brood, there are royal pregnancy rules Harry and Meghan will be expected to follow.

1. The gender is kept a secret

While it’s not known whether the parents find out the sex of the baby before it’s born, the world didn’t know the gender of any of Prince William and Kate’s babies until their births were officially announced. Royal reports claim William and Kate didn’t know the gender of Prince Louis before he was born.

2. Absolutely no overseas travel

While Kate made many public appearances during all three of her pregnancies, once she passed her debilitating morning sickness, she never travelled abroad. The only time she has broken royal protocol was when she travelled to Sweden and Norway earlier this year during her pregnancy with Prince Louis, to accompany Prince Harry.

3. Strictly no baby showers

Baby showers aren’t generally a tradition in England to begin with. But royal expert Victoria Arbiter also explains that, considering the royal family are “very wealthy … a lavish baby shower would be seen as highly inappropriate.”

4. Royal midwives

Another tradition when it comes to royal pregnancies is to have midwives by the mother-to-be’s side during the labour and delivery. It was reported that Kate had three, and they were all sworn to secrecy.

5. The first person told when royal baby is born

It’s no surprise that the Queen is the first person to hear about the new royal arrival before anyone else. It’s royal protocol that Her Majesty is told the good news on an encrypted phone.

6. Why the baby will have many names

A lot of thought goes into a royal baby’s name and names are usually chosen that have special meaning. The monikers are usually traditional and picked from their own family tree.
