PM presenter Mark Colvin has passed away

Australia has lost one of its most authoritative journalistic voices with the confirmation Mark Colvin, who present ABC radio’s current affairs program PM has passed away.

The 65-year-old was widely respected by his peers and audience, and was known as a master interviewer who possessed a depth of knowledge in world affairs.

Colvin struggled with a rare auto-immune disease for more than 20 years, which the reporter had contracted when covering the Rwandan genocide in 1994.

Colvin’s family issued a statement which read, “Today we lost our beloved Mark. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the Prince of Wales hospital, as well as the community, the ABC, his friends and colleagues, who have stood by him and supported his career and life."

Colvin’s passing has been followed by an outpouring of grief.

Our thoughts are with his family at this terrible time.
