Michael Schumacher admitted to hospital for “secret treatment”

Formula One legend Michael Schumacher has been admitted to a Paris hospital to undergo a “secret treatment”.

According to French newspaper Le Parisien, the 50-year-old German was taken to the Georges-Pompidou hospital on Monday afternoon and is in the care of cardiac surgeon Philippe Menasché, who specialises in stem-cell therapy to treat heart failure.

The seven-time Formula One champion is expected to stay in the hospital for two days.

Schumacher has not been seen in public since a skiing accident in the French Alps in December 2013, which left him with severe head injuries.

The report said Schumacher has been benefiting from infusions of stem cells that provide a systemic anti-inflammatory effect throughout his body.

In January, Schumacher’s family said in a statement that he was in “the very best of hands”.

In an interview with Radio Monte-Carlo in July, former Ferrari boss Jean Todt said Schumacher was making “good progress” in his recovery.

“Michael is in the best hands and is well looked after in his house,” Todt said.

“He does not give up and keeps fighting.”
