Melissa Doyle: "How I learned to love my body"

Sunday Night host Melissa Doyle has opened up in a candid new interview with The Australian Women’s Weekly about what she’s learnt about her body after decades in television.

At 47, Doyle says she’s now become more attuned to listening to her body when it comes to her health and wellbeing.

"I have noticed that I need to be a little kinder to myself, to listen to how I feel more. When I'm tired and running out of puff, I find I really need to be gentle, because I am all too aware I could fall over in a tired, messy heap and that won't do anyone any good, especially me and my family," Doyle told the publication.

The mother-of-two reveals that it was the pressure of her career that forced her to rethink her approach to health and happiness. Now she knows she’s the only one that can make any changes to her life.

"If you don't like something about yourself then the only person who can change that is you," she says.

"Change it or live with it. Accept it or make a change. It doesn't really matter what it is, whether it's your shape or anything else in your life. Perhaps as you get a little older you have more confidence to do that and not worry about what other people think."

It was the early morning stars of Sunrise, coupled with raising a young family, that made Doyle realise that she needed to lose a little weight and become healthier.

"It was only a few kilos," she recalls. "It wasn't a lot, just a couple of kilograms but it made a difference. And that started something for me."

"I have a treadmill at home. I try to make sure that I do an hour a day if possible. However, that's not a hard-and-fast rule. Some days I just don't have the energy and, as I said, I am listening to that now".
