Bargain alert: where to get cheap groceries

If you’re anything like us, you love a good bargain. And the best kinds of bargains are usually the ones that come around often. The ones you find on everyday items that you always need. Getting those for cheaper means you have more money to spare for the fun stuff like travel and going out. So we’ve done some research, and found some places you should know about to help lighten your grocery bills.

GroceryRun – This online grocery store is a spinoff of the wildly successful CatchOfTheDay bargain site. On GroceryRun you can never be sure exactly what you’re going to find, but it’s usually a mix of packaged foods like pasta, and snacks, to cleaning products and detergents, and bathroom necessities like cosmetics, toothpaste, and vitamins. You’ll have to check back each day because the deals are refreshed all the time. They have a flat rate delivery fee of $9.95, so stock up on your shops here and nab all that stuff for one postage fee.

Costco – Costco is a fairly recent addition to the grocery scene in Australia. An American import, they’re a membership warehouse club, and they carry everything from groceries and clothing, to cleaning supplies and electronics. Annual membership will cost you $60, but you can bring a friend in with you when you shop (you just have to be the one to make the final purchases), so you might want to think about splitting a membership with a neighbour who shops at the same time as you. There are currently seven Costco stores around the country, in South Australia, New South Wales, Victoria, ACT, and Queensland.

GroceryShop.com.au – Similar to GroceryRun, GroceryShop can save you big money off a lot of everyday essentials. You just have to make sure to come back each day and check for the new deals. Shipping is $10 across most of Australia, or $12 to some more remote areas.
