Major supermarkets just slashed the price of two essential items

Coles, Woolworths and Aldi egg-lovers are in for some good news, with the price of free range eggs being slashed by up to 40 per cent in supermarkets across the board.

Aldi is now selling free range eggs for just $3.69 with Coles and Woolies dropping their eggs as low as $3.80 in some outlets. Before the price-cut, these products were typically retailing for anywhere between $5.50 and $6.50.

A Coles spokesperson said, “By reducing the prices of all our dozen cartons of Coles Brand free-range eggs, we believe we can make it easier for consumers to buy free-range eggs.”

Coles has also announced it would slash the price of bread as much as 35 per cent in some outlets, with Woolworths saying it would price match that offer.

But consumer experts are warning shoppers not to buy into the hype.

Choice spokesman Tom Godfrey told News Limited, “Whether it’s their latest claims around a bread war, egg war or the much-touted milk war, supermarkets hype up the savings on a limited number of products to get you through the door.

“While shoppers looking to purchase a single item might pocket a saving, supermarkets know most of us will go on to purchase a range of products not on special.”
