Exciting news for Kmart shoppers

For the last few years, it seems Aussies have had something of a love affair with Kmart and its affordable offerings, and if you’re among its fans, we’ve got some exciting news – your shop is about to get a whole lot cheaper.

A new report from A Current Affair has revealed 320 products are about to have their prices slashed by up to 20 per cent, permanently. The chain’s managing director, Ian Bailey, announced the changes last night, revealing the company has now moved manufacturing from China to Indonesia.

But despite cheaper production costs, Bailey says customers needn’t worry about diminishing quality or slave labour conditions at Kmart’s factories. “Indonesians make really good quality clothing,” he said. “The skill level here is amazing.

“Many [workers] are paid more than [the minimum wage] because of overtime on top, they do a little bit over a 40-hour week, Monday to Friday. There's health care support, provided for lunch and breaks and there's free food.”

The first 320 price-cut items will go on sale this week, but Bailey expects there to be many more to come. “We anticipate prices will drop as far as the eye can see,” he claimed.
