Domino’s 10,001 free pizza giveaway leaves customers fuming

To celebrate the launch of its new premium range of pizzas, Domino’s Australia announced on Facebook it would be giving away 10,001 free pizzas to customers. All those interested had to do was head to the “10,001 Free Pizzas” tab on their Facebook page,

Unfortunately, it didn’t quite go to plan –and people were not happy. When customers attempted to click the link through to the free pizza offer, they were presented with a 404 error page.

“After 27 minutes of refreshing, I get various combinations of ‘This page is not published’ or ‘There has been an error’,” one social media user wrote. “The closest I got was ‘This item could not be rendered.’”

“Ok for Domino’s to say keep trying but how many different error messages can you get,” wrote another. “This is a total social media promotion fail.”

Dozens took to the page to slam the chain, saying, “We’ll never buy from you again,” and that they had “lost us as customers”.

A spokesperson today told news.com.au that the problems were due to unprecedented demand. “We do apologise that it took multiple attempts for some customers to receive their voucher,” they said. “Our fans are so hungry for our new menu, and free pizza, that they almost broke the internet. To the lucky 10,000 + 1, enjoy your free pizzas!”

The controversy comes just days after Domino’s backflipped on their decision to dump their classic margherita pizza from the menu.
