Terri Irwin urges America to introduce stricter gun control laws

American by birth, Terri Irwin has waded into the gun control debate once again rocking the USA after another school shooting on Valentine’s Day in Florida.

Terri, who became an Australian citizen on November 15, 2009, in a tribute to her late husband Steve, took to Twitter to praise Australian gun policies.

The mother of two also suggested America follows in Australia’s footsteps.

She wrote: “I'm an Australian. I have a firearms license. Our gun ban has ended mass shootings here for 22 years. Not one”

She signed off on the short message with: “This actually works. Try it.”

Australia swiftly enacted tough gun laws by then prime minister John Howard after Martin Bryant went on rampage armed with semi-automatic weapons at the historic Tasmanian colonial convict site of Port Arthur.

Although controversial at the time, more than 600,000 weapons were destroyed and our gun control laws now have strong public support.
