Man arrested for murder of nine-week-old baby

Police have arrested and charged a man over the alleged murder of a nine-week-old baby boy in Sydney's west in early 2020.

Investigators arrested the 46-year-old at a home in Auburn after extensive inquiries into the infant’s death earlier this year.

On Saturday, June 27, emergency services were called to a home at Auburn following reports of an unresponsive baby.

The child was taken to Auburn Hospital, before being transferred to Sydney Children's Hospital.

From there, the baby remained in critical condition until he was removed from life support and died on Monday, July 20.

Detectives from the State Crime Command's Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad established Strike Force Myeerimba to investigate the death.

The man, who police said is known to the baby, has been consequently charged with murder.

Following his arrest, on Thursday afternoon he was refused bail and is due to appear at Burwood Local Court.
