Huge development in Hey Dad! case

One of the most-unsightly cases in recent history has taken another turn, with former Hey Dad! star Robert Hughes losing his High Court Challenge to child sex convictions.

The 68-year-old, who has been locked behind bars since 2014 after being found guilty of 10 sexual and indecent assault charges, had challenged the ruling which argued he has a tendency to engage opportunistically in these activities.

Hughes argued that each accusation, regarding offences which had been committed in the 1980s, was too different to be regarded as a tendency under the law.

But this appeal was quashed by a four to three High Court ruling which supported evidence that had originally been used in his conviction.

This isn’t the first time Hughes has contested the ruling, making an earlier appear to the New South Wales Court of Criminal Appeal, which had failed when the court rejected the argument that he’d suffered a miscarriage of justice.
