Easter Show chaos: one teen dead, one in hospital, one arrested
A 17-year-old boy has died and another has been hospitalised following a stabbing at Sydney’s Royal Easter Show.
Emergency services were called to the carnival ride section of the Show at 8 pm on Monday on reports of a fight.
Two young people were found suffering stab wounds and first aid was administered at the scene before both were taken to Westmead Hospital.
Paramedics worked to save the 17-year-old’s life after he suffered a stab wound to the chest but he died shortly after losing a significant amount of blood.
The other victim was a 16-year-old, who suffered a stab wound to his leg and was taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition.
“Paramedics performed CPR and a number of other critical interventions at the scene before loading the patients to Westmead Hospital,” Inspector Mark Whittaker of NSW Ambulance said.
“Unfortunately despite best efforts he couldn’t be resuscitated.
“There’s no doubt this would have been a very confronting scene for the dozens of witnesses who were out to enjoy an evening at the Royal Easter Show.”
A 15-year-old boy was arrested a short time after and was taken to Auburn Police Station. Attendees at the Show were removed from the area while a crime scene was established.
Investigations are ongoing and a plea for eyewitnesses has been issued by NSW Police.
