Horrifying dashcam photos show caged puppy strapped to roof of car

There are calls for an older couple to be “named and shamed” after a witness snapped photos of them driving on a highway in Queensland with a caged puppy cruelly strapped on top of their vehicle over the weekend.

Margie Popovic was driving along the Bruce Highway in Queensland when she spotted the silver Toyota Prado with a cage precariously strapped onto its roof racks.

Having witnessed the dog’s terrifying ordeal for over 90 minutes, Popovic conceded it may have lasted even longer. “This was a puppy [of] about three to four months!” she wrote. “I imagine [it was] terrified as it was subject to [highway] noise and over 100kph wind without shelter at all... what would this do to a human?”

“Second photo shows crate mat blown up and poor puppy in front of it taking the full force of the wind. This cannot be legal... we will see what the RSPCA will do about it. The older couple in the car should be named and shamed!”

Commenters were understandably outraged at the couple for the act of “animal cruelty,” but others criticised the photographer for not taking action, despite following the car for 115km.

“You followed this vehicle for 115 [kms] and did not call the police?” one man wrote. “You are […] almost just as bad as the people themselves.”

RSPCA Queensland has issued a callout to anyone with information regarding the incident, revealing they are currently investigating it.

If you have any information, you are encouraged to call 1300 ANIMAL (1300 264 625) to report it.
