Insurance scam or misunderstanding? Woman falsely accuses driver of hit and run

A driver in Sydney’s south-west has captured dash cam footage that has divided the internet.

The footage shows the man and a female passenger driving down Meadows Road in Mount Pritchard on Saturday, when a black SUV driving in front appears to hit the kerb.

The man stops behind the car, and the camera shows two women getting out to examine the damage.

Frustrated, the man yells at the women to turn their hazard lights on before attempting to drive around the pair.

A woman can be heard yelling: “Wait, wait!”

The man continues to drive down the road when a silver car dramatically pulls out in front of the car in an attempt to stop the man driving further.

The vigilante driver pulls across the lane before opening the door before realising his handbrake is off and quickly leans back in to put the brakes on.

The man in the silver car yells, “My wife, you hit her car”, before taking pictures of the other car’s number plate.

The video, uploaded to Facebook page Dash Cam Owners Australia, has divided social media with many claiming the video looks like an insurance scam in motion.

“It looks really set up,” one woman wrote. “She did that on purpose... and had him waiting down the road to make it look like you did a runner and then took your rego! So glad you got dashcam footage.”

But others said it could be a misunderstanding.

“Maybe the whole thing was a misunderstanding,” a social media user questioned.

“Silly wife thinks she’s been hit when really she hit the gutter, she tells her hubby in the car ahead that she’s been hit and the guy is leaving the scene.

“Her husband is acting on what his wife says on the mobile. Freaks out and tries to block the guy from leaving scene of an accident that didn’t even happen.”
