These foods reduce anxiety

If you suffer from anxiety, you might want to stock up on sauerkraut, says a recent study.

According to recent research, fermented foods may help to reduce social anxiety. A study examined 700 university students who completed questionnaires that analysed their exercise habits, food consumption, personality, and levels of social anxiety.

In addition, researchers administered genetic testing in order to determine genetic predisposition to anxiety.

After examining subjects’ food intake, scientists found that those who consumed more fermented foods (yogurt, sauerkraut, etc.) were found to have less symptoms of social anxiety.

Exercise was also found to have a correlation to reduced anxiety, though the findings of fermented food remained present even independent of exercise.

Researchers have gathered that fermented foods affect gut bacteria, which in turn alters a subject’s mood.

This is great news for Eastern European food lovers everywhere.
