Lisa Wilkinson defends The Project’s ratings slump
Lisa Wilkinson has defended The Project’s ratings slump in an interview with Who magazine, saying her main priority was to do “good work” and in the end the rest will take care of itself.
While Wilkinson’s debut on The Sunday Project attracted 481,000 metro viewers, numbers have dwindled since with the most recent episode drawing just 254,000.
But the 58-year-old insisted it was a privilege to work on one of Australia’s most trusted interview programs, and that she believed there would always be scrutiny following her move from Nine to Ten.
"In the end, I just want to do good work and the rest will follow," shesaid.
Wilkinson, who previously edited Dolly and Cleo magazines, insisted the show was developing.
"We're bedding down particularly The Sunday Project at the moment and working out the best mix for the show," the veteran journalist added.
Media analyst Steve Allen told The New Daily flagging ratings had more to do with the show’s style and fierce competition from the other networks, rather than its new host.
'Now it's not about Lisa Wilkinson. It's about the format of the show and what they're presenting,' he said.
