Lisa Wilkinson breaks down on The Project: "This is the first Mother's Day without my mum"

Yesterday, Lisa Wilkinson broke down in tears on The Project after receiving a special surprise for Mother’s Day from her three children.

The 58-year-old got emotional after finding out that her husband Peter FitzSimons and her three children Louis, Jake and Billi, had all recorded video messages for her.

Wilkinson’s son, Louis, is currently overseas, and was the first message to play on The Project Sunday edition.

“Hey mum and all the guys on The Project. I just wanted to wish a Happy Mother’s Day to my mum and all the mothers on the show,” Louis said.

“I want you to put on the best show possible because I know you can. Lots of love from Busan, South Korea.”

Then her daughter Billi said a special message to her mum.

“Happy Mother’s Day mum. We’re so lucky to have such an incredible and dedicated mum and I can’t wait until we’re all together again so we can shower you in love and gifts. We love you to bits.”

Wilkinson’s eldest son Jake said his Mother’s Day message alongside his pet cat.

“Sorry I couldn’t see you today, but me and my grumpy cat wanted to wish you a happy Mother’s Day ... You’re the hardest working mum in all of Australia.”

Wilkinson got teary after hearing the messages, explaining that this Mother’s Day had been harder than most.

“This is my first Mother’s Day without my mum. I only lost her two months ago, so that’s really, really special,” she said.

In March, Wilkinson shared a family photo with her mum, Beryl, and her three children when they were babies.

“Farewell to my sweet, beautiful mum, Beryl. You were an angel, a fighter, and a devoted mum and grandma right to the end. Be at gentle peace now,” she wrote at the time.
