Grant Denyer’s teary Gold Logie win: “You saved me”

Grant Denyer has won the coveted Gold Logie at the 60th annual Logie awards on the Gold Coast on Sunday night.

Denyer beat Nine’s A Current Affair host Tracy Grimshaw, Ten’s The Living Room host Amanda Keller, Nine’s Doctor Doctor actor Rodger Corser and Foxtel’s Selling Houses Australia host Andrew Winter and former winner Jessica Marais.

He also won the most popular presenter award earlier in the night despite his show, Family Feud, being cancelled.

In an emotional speech, the TV host paid tribute to his wife Cheryl and dedicated his Gold Logie win to her.

"Oh my god I won!" Denyer yelled as he ran on stage and accepted Australian TV’s top gong from last year's winner Samuel Johnson.

The 40-year-old became visibly teary when he recalled how Family Feud came at a time when he was in the middle of a personal crisis.

"I really wasn't sure if I'd ever work again or if I wanted to," Denyer said.

"I wasn't particularly in a very good place. I wasn't very well. I was in a bit of a hole. I was pretty sad. I was a bit lost and Family Feud came along and I was very unwell at that particular time. And Family Feud gave me a ladder out of that hole. And I've very lucky to have had it.

“It gave me my mojo back, it gave me my confidence, it gave me some courage and I rebuilt myself. It gave me a new attitude. And I figured out it's never too late to improve yourself, to be kind to other people, and to know that you can always be a better you and that you can have a much better, positive influence on other people."

Denyer also thanked his wife Cheryl, admitting he had forgot to mention her during his acceptance speech for the most popular presenter, saying: “Didn’t even thank my own wife for her contribution.”

"My beautiful wife Chezzi, oh, my god people... We did it darling. We bloody did it. You have been there and held me up," he said, with tears in his eyes.

"This is yours as much as it is mine. You believed in me even when I stopped believing in myself. You never changed your attitude. You are always a ray of sunshine in our world. You have made the two most beautiful girls I could ever imagine. Sailor and Scout at home. Thank you for everything."
