The free Aussie streaming service you'll love

In the past few years, Australia has really kicked it up in the online TV and film streaming department. We’ve got thousands of movies and TV episodes to get lost in thanks to Netflix, Stan and Foxtel Go, but an unlikely free-to-air player is giving the big guns a run for their money – SBS On Demand.

SBS as a channel has long been considered the quiet, slightly off-beat younger sibling of Channel 7, the Nine Network, Channel 10 and ABC, but in recent years it’s undergone quite the transformation.

Its On Demand service, which can be accessed on their website, through your Smart TV or on your iOS or Android device, is packed with hidden (and not-so-hidden) gems. In fact, it has many of the shows and movies you’ve probably seen while browsing through Netflix, Stan and Foxtel – only they’re completely free to watch.

On offer are gritty documentaries (The Thin Blue Line), Hollywood classics and Oscar-winners (Driving Miss Daisy), international films (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), world-class drama series (Vikings) and homegrown favourites (Puberty Blues). In fact, there are almost 1000 movies available and hundreds of TV series to catch-up on.

Plus, who wouldn’t seize the opportunity to binge on RocKwiz on a dull, rainy Sunday? Tell us in the comments below, are you a fan of SBS On Demand? What streaming services do you use?
