First look: The Crown

Netflix has embarked on a daring new project, shelling out £100 million ($175 million) on a new series exploring the early years of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign called The Crown. Starring Claire Foy as the Queen and Matt Smith as Prince Phillip, the series will span Her Majesty’s personal and public life from her wedding in 1947 to the present day.

According to The Telegraph, the real royal family are “very, very aware” of the show and “very nervous and very excited” about it.

“I think Netflix are working on getting her to give an endorsement,” showrunner Peter Morgan (who wrote the 2006 film The Queen, starring Helen Mirren) told a press conference. “Through untraceable back channels, countless approaches have been made.”

The Crown is set to be released on Netflix on 4th November 2016.
