"Do I need a man to be happy?" Cassandra Thorburn snaps at Studio 10 hosts
She’s been through a bitter high-profile split after her marriage to Today show host Karl Stefanovic collapsed.
But Cassandra Thorburn snapped on Wednesday after Sarah Harris suggested that she needed to find love again in order to enjoy life after her divorce.
Making an appearance on Studio 10, Cassandra was asked whether she was searching for a new beau, with the 47-year-old firing back: “Do I need a man to be happy?”
Cassandra appeared on the Network Ten breakfast show in order to promote her new children’s book, but it didn’t take long before her famous ex-husband and their relationship breakdown was brought up.
Sarah Harris approached the topic of what life was like post-divorce for Cassandra, saying: “It would be tricky being a mum and dad for your kids.”
Cassandra was visibly unimpressed by the suggestion that she plays both roles in the parenting of the former couple's three kids: Jackson, 18, Ava, 13, and River, 11.
“But you’re not mum and dad. My children still have a dad – of course they do. I’m not replacing him in that position. He still holds that position,” Cassandra fired back.
To make matters worse, Sarah then went on to ask about Cassandra’s dating life.
“You are a great mum, and I know your life is all about them at the moment, but is the door open to maybe … love again?” Sarah asked.
The question left Cassandra dumbfounded, and she snapped back in her response.
“What? So, I need another – so do I need to have a man?” Cassandra replied. “Do I need to have a man to continue on?”
Sarah then insisted the remark was light-hearted as she struggled to revive the awkward segment.
Despite Cassandra not appreciating the question, she later conceded that she wasn’t ruling out the possibility of finding love.
“I think you have to be open to anything coming your way in life, but at the moment, I’m not focused on it,” she said.
Cassandra was faced with a media storm after her 21-year marriage to Karl collapsed in September 2016 as the pair were scrutinised heavily by tabloids.
Only three months after the split, Karl struck up a relationship with shoe designer Jasmine Yarbrough.
Cassandra has previously claimed that the very public ordeal has been difficult for the pair’s children.
