"Bert would be beaming": Patti Newton's granddaughter makes TV debut

Bert and Patti Newton's granddaughter Lola has stolen the spotlight after making her TV debut.

The 11-year-old, who is the daughter of Bert and Patti's daughter Lauren, appeared on the ABC gold rush comedy Gold Diggers, marking her first foray into acting.

Lauren shared a screenshot of her daughter on the TV show on Instagram, sharing how proud she and her husband, former Olympic swimmer Matt Welsh, are of their girl.

She captioned the photo, "We are so proud watching Lola in #golddiggerstv on [ABC]. It's definitely not a show for kids, but Matt and I are loving it, especially the pagent winner Bianca played by our beautiful Lols."

The screenshot of the TV show sees Lola dressed in 1800s attire with her hair wrapped in traditional curls.

The new comedy show, set in 1850s outback Australia, follows the adventures of sisters Gert and Marigold and their ambition to strike it rich in a gold mining town.

Many fans flocked to the comments of Lauren's post to share their congratulations for her daughter's acting debut, while commending her for following on the family's showbiz legacy.

One person wrote, "Oh beautiful! Bert would be beaming with pride."

Another viewer commented, "Congratulations Lola and proud parents too. Another generation of entertainers!"

Others noted how much of a natural young Lola seemed on camera, with one person adding, "She was fabulous… a real natural talent."

One keen fan wrote that they had recently seen Lola's grandmother Patti Newton in the production of Mary Poppins recently, and "wondered how many of the grandkids would follow in their footsteps!"

Other fans shared that they had no idea it was Lola playing the role, and assured they would now tune into the TV show to see how her family's talents as entertainers have trickled through the generations.
