The awkward moment on the Today show we all missed

Live TV doesn’t always go to plan, but when a live-cross went wrong on the Today show yesterday morning, newsreader Lara Vella handled it like a pro.

While presenting a story on the NSW Police Band, which have released a remixed Christmas carol to warn people against scams these holidays, Vella crossed to a guest from the police force to chat more about the initiative – only that isn’t what happened.

“Here to tell us more is the Commander of the NSW Financial Crimes Squad, Detective Superintendent Linda Howlett,” Vella said. “Good morning to you. It certainly is a catchy tune and I reckon you’re hoping that people will remember those lyrics too.”

Unfortunately, there was an awkward mix-up – the Today cameras crossed to the wrong guest in a different studio. “Ah, sorry, I’m actually here to talk about road safety,” the woman apologised. “I’m not from the police.”

To her credit, Vella didn’t miss a beat. “OK, well, we’ll definitely come back to the Detective Superintendent for more on that,” she responded. “We’ll throw to Deb now. Thank you.”

What a champ! Tell us in the comments below, did you see this awkward moment live on the Today show yesterday morning?
