Another Neighbours alum to return for final episode

Former Neighbours star Guy Pearce is coming home to Ramsay Street one more time for the show's grand finale.

Pearce, who has gone on to star in Memento, LA Confidential and The King's Speech among other big titles, has returned to film the end to the shows 37-year run, with the final episode airing on August 1.

The actor isn’t the only big-name star to return for the finale, with alums Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan both reprising their roles.

Speaking to London newspaper Metro, Pearce described his return to Neighbours as “very exciting and surreal”, and that it “feels like coming home”.

“It’s where it all started for me professionally. I’ve been asked to come back on occasions over the years and wondered whether it was the right thing to do, but once I knew the show was finishing, I knew I had to do it,” he said.

“While I’ve caught up with many of the cast I worked with on the show over the years, there is nothing like being here all together again.”

Pearce has already been taking to social media to share sweet behind-the-scenes moments with the rest of the cast, saying it was “so lovely” to be reunited.

“Another delightful day on set with beautiful old friends … (and a pretty swish new bike!),” he captioned one post.

Jason Herbison, the soap’s executive producer, told the newspaper Pearce’s return to set was “poignant” for everyone involved.

“I’m incredibly honoured that Guy is returning to the show for a very special story arc,” Herbison continued. “Having him back on set has been poignant for him and for us. He’s been very involved in the storyline, and I can’t wait to finally answer the question for viewers - who is Mike Young today?”

Herbison, who wrote the final episode, told Digital Spy that it won’t be obvious to everyone.

“I feel very privileged to write the final episodes and bring our beloved Neighbours to an end. I always had a vision of how I would close the show and I have stuck to that vision, so I hope the viewers enjoy it,” he said.

“The magnitude of the moment is not lost on me and everyone is coming together behind the scenes to make the ending as befitting as possible,” he added, hinting that more surprises were in store.

“I’m pleased to say that I haven’t seen anyone guess what happens yet - though the final scene would be hard to guess!”
