Anne of Green Gables to return to our screens

Beloved children’s book Anne of Green Gables is set to return to our screens once more with a new series to air on Netflix. Premiering next year, the popular streaming service will bring L. M. Montgomery’s timeless and wholesome 1908 tale to an entirely new generation.

Elizabeth Bradley, vice president of content at Netflix, said the series (simply titled Anne) will include eight episodes written by Emmy Award-winning Breaking Bad writer Moira Walley-Beckett. The pilot episode, which will reportedly be two hours long, will be directed by New Zealander Niki Caro, best known for 2002 film Whale Rider.

“Anne Shirley is one of Canada’s greatest gifts to the world, known and loved internationally, so we’re thrilled to be working with the CBC and Northwood to bring this charismatic character to both new and old fans around the world,” Bradley said.

CBC was responsible for the production of the much-loved 1985 miniseries Anne of Green Gables, so we’re sure this series will be made as thoughtfully as the last.

Casting announcements have not yet been made, but we will certainly keep you posted with any new developments. Tell us in the comments below, will you be tuning into the new series?
