3 easy ways to connect with friends and family on Facebook

With millions of users, Facebook is the biggest and most popular social networking site around. It’s a great tool for finding people you might have lost contact with: distant relatives, long-lost childhood friends, the lovely couple you met holidaying overseas and so on, the list is endless. Here are three easy ways to track down those people and reconnect.

Search Facebook

A general search on Facebook is a good place to start as Facebook ranks people that have mutual friends with you higher than strangers. Type in their name in the search bar at the top of your Facebook page. On the left hand side, there’s a filter titled “result type.” Click the option for “people” which will limit your search to people on Facebook rather than pages or groups. From there, you can further narrow your search results by location, education or workplace.

Through a mutual friend

If you met someone through a friend or you know you have a mutual friend, you can try search your friend’s friends. Go to your friend’s Facebook profile and click on the “Friends” box, which is near the profile picture. Scroll down their friends list (a good option if you want to browse) or type the person’s name in the search box located on the top right of the screen.

Search via email

Go to Facebook friend finder and on the right side of the screen there’s box to “Add Personal Contacts”. Click on your email provider (there’s option for Outlook, Yahoo, and other email providers as well as Skype to find your Skype contacts). Follow the directions, as they are different for every provider. You need to either supply your email address or password so Facebook can export your contacts from your email to Facebook and find friends on Facebook using their email addresses.
