Aussies more concerned about dropping phone than climate change

Ah, is there anything worse than the feeling you get when you crack the screen of your smartphone? Well, according to Australians asked in a recent survey, not really.

Startling research from the team at tech21 has indicated dropping your smartphone on a hard surface is top of the list of most Australians concerns, above seeing your friend trip in the street and climate change and global warming.

The survey, which had over 1,000 respondents, was a fairly even spread of representatives of the Australian population, with 15.6 per cent of those surveyed fitting into the 55-65 age bracket, and 20.3 per cent of those surveyed aged 65 and over.

The research found roughly one in three (34 per cent) of Australians admitted to cracking their smartphone within the first six months of using it. And interestingly roughly the same number (29 per cent) of smartphone-owning Australians made do with the cracked devices for more than a year before choosing to replace it.

“From the office to the home, we’re using smartphones now more than ever. Despite this, it is still surprising how often Australians are dropping their devices,” said Colin Woodward, Chief Marketing Officer at tech21.

On the list provided by tech21, Aussies ranked their biggest concerns as follows:

1. Catching the flu

2. Dropping a new phone on a hard surface

3. Seeing your friend trip in the street

4. Climate change/Global warming

5. Dropping your pizza

6. Not getting enough likes on your Instagram post

What do you make of the findings? Have you ever cracked the screen of a smartphone?
