Michael Bublé’s wife opens up about son’s cancer battle

It’s every parent’s worst nightmare for their child to be faced with a life-threatening illness, but sadly, for Michael Bublé and his wife Luisana Lopilato, that nightmare became a reality last year when their three-year-old son Noah was diagnosed with liver cancer.

A couple of months ago, the family confirmed Noah was doing “very well”, and now, in an emotional new interview on Argentinian TV, Luisana has opened up about the moment she received the heartbreaking news.

“After they did the ultrasound, they told me they found something in his belly,” she recalled. “They didn’t know what it was yet, or if it was a tumour, but that day I decided to take a flight [to the United States].”

She revealed that the couple had made a pact to meet in Los Angeles if ever they needed medical treatment, as it was halfway between her native Argentina and Bublé’s Canada.

“Without saying anything to Michael, I took the plane,” she recalled. “I took [Noah] to the hospital as soon as I arrived. We have an oncologist, a friend who does not take care of kids, but he saw him. It was all from God. I don’t know how to explain it. If we hadn’t done that ultrasound to find out if he had mononucleosis, it would have been so much worse.”

The pair both put their careers on hold to be by their son’s side during such a difficult time. “These things, when they happen to you in life, they make you realise that the most important thing isn’t what you thought it was – it’s to have faith, to be strong,” Luisana said.

“For any parent, it’s devastating to receive news like this. It was very heavy. We received all the prayers, all the calls. The only thing that got me through it was faith, from the very beginning.”
