Nicole Kidman and Cate Blanchett break silence on Harvey Weinstein scandal

In the days following the New York Times exposé on producer and film executive Harvey Weinstein, one of the biggest names in the entertainment industry, victims have been coming forth in droves, accusing the Hollywood heavyweight of three decades of sexual harassment and assault.

Among the actresses said to be victims of the Pulp Fiction producer are Angelina Jolie, Ashley Judd, Rose McGowan, Gwyneth Paltrow and Lea Seydoux.

Now, Aussie actress Nicole Kidman has broken her silence on the allegations.

“As I’ve stated before publicly, I support and applaud all women and these women who speak out against any abuse and misuse of power – be it domestic violence or sexual harassment in the workforce,” the star said in a statement. “We need to eradicate this behaviour.”

While, as Variety points out, Kidman avoids naming Weinstein, she has worked with him in the past on a number of films including Cold MountainThe OthersNine and Lion, for which she received an Oscar nomination.

Cate Blanchett also issued a statement to Variety, and like Kidman, did not name Weinstein, with whom she worked on Carol and The Aviator.

“Any man in a position of power or authority who thinks it’s his prerogative to threaten, intimidate or sexually assault any woman he encounters or works alongside needs to be called to account,” she said. “It is never easy for a woman to come forward in such situations and I wholeheartedly support those who have.”

The Aussie stars join a growing list of actresses slamming the mogul, including Meryl Streep, Jennifer Lawrence, Kate Winslet and Minnie Driver.
