Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman’s heartfelt message to drought-stricken farmers: “We want to do our bit”

They are one of the most loved celebrity couples and now, Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban have sent a heartfelt message to Aussie farmers as they continue to battle the country’s devastating drought.

The stars shared that they have donated $100,000 to Nine’s Fighting For Our Farmers Drought Relief Appeal, and encouraged others to also contribute to the cause.

During the video for the Today show, Keith said: “We wish we could be with you today but I'm on tour, but it's very important for us to be a part of this today and do our bit for the farmers.”

Nicole added: “We love Australia and we realise there's been a crippling drought crisis and the rural communities are doing it really, really hard right now so we want to do our bit.

“We would like to donate $100,000 to the Farm Aid Telethon and we're asking anybody else out there that would like to do anything, this is how you can do it.”

The couple appeared emotional as they made the plea for Aussies to join together to support struggling farmers.

Nine’s Drought Relief Appeal has so far raised over $7 million, with the first $1 million being distributed between three organisations.

The Lions Club’s Need For Feed project has received $500,000 for livestock and feed resources, the Queensland Country Women’s Association has been given $250,000 to help farmers pay for groceries and bills, and the New South Wales CWA has been allocated $250,000 to assist farmers with groceries and bills.

On Sunday, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said the financial aid for drought-stricken Australian farmers will be increased to $1.8 billion.

“I want to say to our farmers, we have your back. There is no set-and-forget,” Turnbull told reporters in the New South Wales town of Forbes.

“We are constantly working to ensure that you get every support you can, and of course let's all pray for rain,” Turnbull added.
