The Queen's sister hits out at Princess Mary in explosive new tell-all book

A member of the Danish royal family has taken a swing at Crown Princess Mary in an explosive new tell-all book about her life as a member of the monarch.

The younger sister of Queen Margrethe, Princess Benedikte, has criticised the Hobart-born Princess and the rest of the royal family for their extravagant lifestyles and lavish expenditures.

Benedikte – A Royal Princess contains many backhanded comments allegedly aimed at the mother-of-four.

The 75-year-old shared her disagreement on how much the women of the family spend on items such as clothes and accessories.

She said that her mother, Queen Ingrid, would aim to buy more timeless pieces that could be worn more than once, rather than the designer outfits the younger generation choose to wear.

Princess Benedikte also went on to say that members of the royal family should not be viewed as celebrities, as she criticised the media for treating them like movie stars.

Many believe that was a subtle jab at the way the press handled Mary’s “fairy tale” love story with Crown Prince Frederik.

The couple met at a Sydney pub and swiftly fell in love. The 47-year-old Australian then bought a single ticket to Denmark to live out her duties as the Crown Princess of Denmark.
