See the royal collection of paintings in Buckingham Palace

In the 1820s, Buckingham House was transformed by architect John Nash to make it a palace for George IV.

The Picture Gallery was one of the additions to Buckingham House and it displays some of the greatest paintings in the Royal Collection.

The 47-metre room contains four marble chimneypieces, each with a pair of female figures holding palettes and brushes.

Today, the Picture Gallery is used as one of the rooms for official entertaining and is the setting for receptions for the Queen and members of the Royal family to celebrate achievement in an area of life or sector in the community.

The paintings in the gallery change quite regularly as the Queen lends many paintings to exhibitions in the UK and overseas.
