Why Russell Crowe is holding a "divorce auction" on his wedding anniversary

Russell Crowe is ready to move on from his ex-wife Danielle Spencer, and he’s making that known in no uncertain terms by selling a collection of his personal affects on what would have been their anniversary, in what the star is dubbing “The Art of Divorce”.

Sotheby’s Australia will run the event in Sydney on April 7, with 227 different items from the actor’s private life including pieces like diamond rings, watches, guitars, movie memorabilia and fine art, set to go under the hammer.

And as you can see in the gallery above, there’s some interesting stuff.

“Divorce has its way of making you really examine the things that are essential in life — and the things that are not,” Crowe, 53, said in a short statement through Sotheby’s Australia (via The Hollywood Reporter).

“Through the process I had a look around and realised I had a lot of stuff. Career stuff, stuff I’ve collected, and stuff in general. Boxes and boxes of stuff… so in the spirit of moving forward into fresh air, here’s a portion of that collection of stuff.”

The couple who split in 2012 have two sons, Tennyson and Charles.
