Eerie photos of Coles supermarket frozen in time

Cigarette packets branded in blue, manual credit card scanners, and a Kraft product no longer available – this is what Australian supermarkets looked like a couple of decade ago.

Shared by the Abandoned Melbourne Facebook page, the pictures of “Coles New World” are a fascinating glimpse into a past.

“This Coles Supermarket originally opened as a 'Coles New World' in October 1978. It was open for exactly 30 years, closing its doors on the 16th October 2008,” the photographer for Abandoned Melbourne says in a post.

“Remember, 2008 is when cigarette packaging was normal. A 30 pack of PJ was $12.64 and 48 VB's were $66.”

The photographer, who wishes to remain anonymous, says they never share the location of the derelict building to protect it from vandalisers.

All we know of this abandoned Coles is that it is located in regional Victoria.
