Architects love to design beautiful buildings, but not always. Some of the buildings featured here are downright ugly; others simply look weird in certain lights.

But all these buildings have a reputation for looking evil. We imagine each could make a great movie set for a James Bond villain.

A couple, such as the former Research Institute for Experimental Medicine in Berlin and the mountaintop HQ for the Bulgarian Communist Party, raise more than a few questions about their past use.

Others are churches, but there's a long history of scary stuff associated with churches – Notre Dame's gargoyles, for example, take some beating.
