3 reasons I love renting out my place on Airbnb

3 reasons I love renting out my place on Airbnb

Rosie Kennett and her husband Mike recently listed their beautiful holiday home, located on Kangaroo Island, South Australia, on Airbnb for the first time. Here, she shares the reasons why she’s enjoying her Airbnb experience.

1. We connect with many more people

My husband and I wanted to increase our exposure to the rental market beyond our own website and Stayz. Friends have listed their apartment with Airbnb and found it to be a positive experience so we decided to try. Airbnb has a huge database in Australia and overseas so the opportunity to connect with prospective guests was greatly improved. As soon as we registered, we received enquiries. We have had three bookings in the first three months of registering.

2. Airbnb customer service is great

Airbnb are very quick to advise you of an enquiry and send reminders by email and phone to respond to the guests. They do not take a high percentage of commission either – they pay on time straight into your nominated account. The only negative is that you only receive payment at time of the guests stay which means Airbnb have use of the funds for up to several months – but that is how they keep their commission rate low.

3. It’s great option for extra income in retirement

Airbnb is a great option to provide additional income for over 60s if they are planning to be away from home or if they have a holiday house. They may even have a spare room they can make available. Or you can list your property during special events when accommodation is hard to find. It’s also great way to make new acquaintances especially from interstate and overseas.
